Dennis Abalos
ABOUT
Dennis Abalos is an Industrial Designer, Designer/Maker based in Sydney, Australia.
His work ranges from self produced designs to collaborative design work with a wide variety of clients on a broad range of projects, whether it is consumer products, custom furniture and lighting design to retail interiors, point of sale displays and exhibition design.
Born in Angeles City, Philippines, and growing up in Sydney, Australia since the age of 8, Dennis always had a niche for designing and creating objects. From secondary education making cabinets, stools and coffee tables to studying design at University, he has always followed his passion for design and development.
Having completed a Bachelor in Industrial Design with First Class Honours as well as a Sub Major in Furniture Design at the University of Technology, Sydney in 2005, Dennis established himself as one of Sydney's up and coming designers.
Dennis's designs including the Slinked Modular Bench, the Razor Floor Lamp and particularly the design and prototype of the Snug Chair saw him achieve industry recognition along with his regular participation in design exhibitions and competitions around Australia.
He was given the opportunity to be the Product Designer and Concept Developer for a commercial furniture company developing office systems, cable management products, to table bases, mechanical sliding accessories and brackets.
Dennis moved on to expand his skills as an Industrial Designer and worked at a boutique product design and invention consultancy. He gained valuable experience in designing consumer products including electrical products, motorised toys, sporting equipment, cosmetics packaging and safety equipment.
His growing skills in the past few years have seen him collaborate with national company leaders in the Exhibition and Event Design and Production industry. He has since produced custom designed exhibitions and stands for international clients, Swarovski, Smeg, Mitsubishi, LOréal, Palsonic, Peugeot, and Fujitsu to name a few.
As an ambitious and passionate designer, Dennis spends most of his spare time developing his own brand and his own product line in furniture and lighting. His design endeavours have led him to achieve international recognition and acclaim and this will continue to grow in the near future.
Dennis's design philosophy is to create unique and timeless designs that will improve the quality and value of products. He intends to promote Australian Design on the world stage.
"My designs are all functional although some of the things I do are only for functionality. Other times, however, Im more interested in form and figure, and function is secondary in importance. You need to find the perfect balance for good design.
I design through exploration and I have fun discovering forms and shapes throughout the design process. I like to explore what can be done with different materials and what kind of products to create without limitations of function and production.
I love to conceptualise and make designs into reality; and to help others through design. I enjoy making designs that are functional and innovative, but are also objects that beautify and enhance a space.
I always intend to make creative, interesting and exciting objects to enhance and enrich peoples experiences."
